Re: Smooth Stepper

Jerry, Ignoring the shading (A axis?) for now, I think you definitely have mechanical/electrical problems with both your X and Y axes, most noticeable in the horizontal engraving, but also evident in all four examples. All lines should be straight and evenly spaced apart. Going back to the ESS is no...

Re: Smooth Stepper

Jerry, Please run this test image at .01 Pixel resolution, and carefully focus the laser diode. For now, do not use FRC. Your attention needs to be on testing your machine rather than trying to engrave gray shades for now. If the machine is not "tight" and producing straight lines, then ex...

Re: EmBlaser Again

Jeff,
Looks like a "Kodak Moment" on wood. This may be close to the best you've ever done.

Re: Smooth Stepper

Jerry, You either have mechanical or driver problems. The horizontal lines and angled streaks should not be in the engraving, and the edges should be straight. What angle did you use? These issues are not from the program settings or the gcode. Maybe this is why the ESS was not working right for you...

Re: Smooth Stepper

Jerry, It is hard to be sure, but it looks like you used 45° RIGHT angle for engraving. Try different angles to see if your results improve. The shape of the beam from a 445 laser diode can affect the final results some. Also, if the 35% is the FRC (Feed Rate Change) setting, then try it without FRC...

Re: Smooth Stepper

Jerry, The ESS outputs a much cleaner and faster signal than a parallel port does, so skipping steps does not seem logical to me. I have two SmoothSteppers and never missed steps since installing them. I strongly suspect that the Chinese stepper drivers, which I think you are using, may not like the...

Re: Smooth Stepper

Jerry,
I don't understand why the G92.1 usage. I have never had a need for it with laser engraving. Do you have a G90 (absolute mode) in your Mach3 setup or gcode?

Re: Smooth Stepper

Looking good, Jerry. Glad you found the issue. I thing the ESS is an excellent addition to Mach3.

Re: Smooth Stepper

Jerry,
Post your settings. I'll compare them to my SS setup. Might spot something.
