Feed Rate problems with GRBL + Piclaser

Hi to all!

I buyed piclaser for make photo engraving and i have some problems with feed rate when i send Gcodes generated with Piclaser.

I set my CNC to 4000mm/min feed rate and when start a job make outline fast but when start with photo slow down drasticaly.

Whit my Nichia 2.5W Laser i need more speed or all parts of job it's dark and i need to put down laser potenci with max laser value to 100 :facepalm\

I use the last GRBL i think is 0.9J and now i use this config (i changed a lot of thing for try to improve speed):

In pixel resolution y use 0.16mm because with 0.18-0.254 the lines are to many separeted and my laser focus i think it's good and small focus point.

I use CNC Shield and use spindle pwm with S commands for control pwm.


Any idea for improve speed when print rasters?

Hi lluis,

Your feedrate issue is with grbl 9J. It will not execute the S commands in real time. It will dwell on every line there is a S command because it's intended for spindle speed, not laser control. You will need to flash the J-Tech PWM grbl 9G firmware to your UNO. You can find the download on this forum at the bottom of the main page.

Also grbl 9J does not have the setting $14=, but grbl 9G does, so make sure you set it to $14=1 after flashing the new firmware. There is no homing or arc support either because it was only intended for raster engraving images. The J-Tech grbl uses a range of S0-S255 for the laser power commands, so set PicLaser accordingly.

I uploaded hex file from here, and i see in GRBL controller current firmware is J-Tech Photonics 0.9g but i have the same problem, when start picture go extremely slow.

I changed $14=1 only.

I need to do something for erase old configs of grbl?



Or another config need to change for make it work.

Ok, are you using a Genuine Arduino UNO, or a counterfeit/knockoff? Unless it's a Genuine UNO, it may not work properly.

Here is how you can tell.

It should maintain your original grbl settings, but check them anyway.

It's a duemilanove genuine arduino not uno.

The problem it's yesterday with Piclaser demo before but piclaser i tested it and works good with good speed when i make a photo.

And i changed to 0.9J and stop works, and now with j-tech grbl don't work too and i don't understand what option or reason affect with this change.

It's normal when i flash to j-tech grbl the new grbl mantain the last settings? Because i flashed it and grbl options are the same.

I just noticed a grbl setting that may be your problem. Try changing $10=18, then afterwards, change $11=.005 back again. You will see why.

Now whith 10=18 and 11=0.005 the machine go in same speed extremely slower.

It's possible make a reset grbl for lose all old configs?

There is a reset button on your Arduino, but I'm not sure how to reset all the grbl settings. Flashing grbl 9g should not have changed them. What gcode streamer are you using? Some can not handle the increased performance of the grbl settings. Our PicSender can though. Or the problem is the Arduino Duemilanove itself. We never heard of anyone using one.
