Thanks I'll try that.
So should it be
G1A-.0255F10
A-.0000

So if I leave the A axis acceleration same as the X and Y I wont have the burn spots on a photo engrave?

George

G90 G64 <-----Add these also.
G1A-.0255F10 <----Yes these are correct.
A-.0000

The higher accels, the better, as long there are no position/steps loss.

I already had the G90 G64.

I'm going to try a photo today.

Ok, so I tried out a photo. Can you suggest any settings to improve it?

Here's the photo

Try sanding across the grains of the wood with fine sandpaper before lasering. Did you engrave vertical? It looks that way by the vertical lines. Use the 45D engraving angle instead.

It looks like you may have some slight backlash and/or mechanical looseness. Is your lens secured?

I used a rotory sander before lasering. It was done "horizontally". I'll try 45D
I have the lens secured with hot glue.

George,
Are you using screw drives on your machine? All-thread by chance?

No. It's rack and pinion.

The vertical lines in your image are very similar to ones I had with my first machine, which used all-thread screws.

They appear to be periodic, indicating to me that you have a mechanical problem, hence my question. I have no experience with rack and pinion, but I recommend that you investigate them as the cause.
